How to Start a Pokémon Figure Collection You’ll Love Displaying
A Pokémon collection does not need to begin with a complete Pokédex.
One favorite character can be enough: the partner from your first game, a Pokémon you always add to your team, or a design that simply makes you smile.
Pokémon’s broad appeal also shows up in retail data. Circana named it Canada’s Toy Property of the Year based on 2025 sales. That recognition covers the wider toy market, rather than figures alone, but it provides context for the franchise’s continued relevance to collectors. Read Circana’s award results.
To turn that enthusiasm into a display, start with a theme you can describe in one sentence.
Choose a collecting rule
A simple rule helps you decide what belongs on the shelf. You might collect:
- Your favorite Pokémon and its different interpretations.
- A team inspired by one game.
- Characters from a particular region.
- A coordinated group of colors.
- Relaxed, everyday scenes rather than battle poses.
The rule can change later. Its purpose is to make your first purchases feel connected.
Compare the mood of each figure
The same Pokémon can create a very different impression depending on its pose.
VSFIG currently lists Funism Sylveon designs named “Leisure Time” and “Adventure,” offering a useful starting point for comparing interpretations of one character. Check their current listings for specifications and availability. View Sylveon Leisure Time and Sylveon Adventure.
When comparing options, look at the expression, movement, base, and viewing angle. Imagine the figure in the room where you will actually display it.
Would you prefer a calm companion beside your books, or an energetic focal point near your gaming setup?
Design one small scene first
Try planning a display around one main figure and one or two supporting objects. A game case or a protected card can provide context without filling every inch.
Keep taller items toward the back, and leave enough separation to see each character’s silhouette. If you use a riser, check that it is stable and large enough for the entire base.
Photograph the arrangement at eye level. A quick picture can reveal overlapping shapes that are less obvious while you are moving things around.
Set a budget for the theme
Choose a comfortable total for the display, including delivery and any accessories. You do not need to buy every piece at once.
Before adding another figure, ask whether it contributes something new: a different pose, a missing team member, or a color that completes the arrangement.
